4 Reasons to Choose Wallpaper instead of Paint
As a very indecisive lady I have always taken the easy option and just painted walls instead of picking wallpaper. I always worry that I would never be able to decide what I liked and my house would never get decorated so I have been too quick to reach for the paint brush.
Recently I have been looking around the house and I hate admitting when I am wrong but …. *whispers* “I was totally wrong”. When I initially moved in to our home I made the mistake of taking the “easy option” and painting the walls magnolia and that was that.
As a family we spend a lot of time in our kitchen/diner entertaining friends and family and I wish I had of added some character to our kitchen by picking some funky kitchen wallpaper to give our friends something to talk about .
Here are my 4 reasons why to pick wallpaper instead of paint.
1. Statement piece
Wallpaper allows you to show off a bit of your personality without having to say anything. As we often have people round for dinner and drinks, I feel a statement wallpaper piece in each of the rooms would really give our house a bit of edge.
2. Wallpaper lasts longer than paint.
Now I never knew this was the case. We literally only painted our house 2 years ago and it already looks dull and needs a refresh of paint again. My husband and I work a lot and when we aren’t working we are looking after our one-year-old, so when is the right time for a refresh and where do we put our one-year-old son when the paint is wet?
3. Wallpaper cleans easier that paint
Surprisingly wallpaper cleans a lot easier than paint, this again is something I was totally unaware of – in fact if anything I would have thought that kitchen wallpaper would be more difficult to clean. I recently visited my friend and her son decided to throw his spaghetti at the wall, my friend literally got up strolled to the sink wet a cloth and walked over to the wallpaper and wiped it off. I couldn’t believe it. In our kitchen we have drips of sauce on the paint that will just not come off and the bits that I have managed to scrub off took the paint off with the drip.
4. Showcases each room
I love how each room in a house can be different depending on what mood you would like for the room. I would always have the bedroom wallpaper more calming than I would in the kitchen/diner. I love the idea of people commenting on different wallpaper in the rooms.
I used to worry that I would pick the wrong wallpaper and it wouldn’t match but sometimes it doesn’t need to. Wallpaper adds individuality to each room and that I absolutely love.
At the moment no one ever says “God that Magnolia paint looks awesome”
So if you are thinking of decorating and you are reaching for that paint brush… take it from someone that made the mistake before.. unless you want to be redecorating in 2 years’ time, pick wallpaper.
