Meet the Family Team
Any change in your personal circumstances will have a big impact on all other areas of your life. So, whether you need advice at the start of a relationship, help to ensure your children are safe and happy or you need guidance on how to bring a relationship to an end, our family team will guide you through the process, with compassion and empathy.
We can advise on a range of family legal issues, including:
A separation or divorce is difficult for everyone involved but especially when children. When it comes to child arrangements, we work hard to put the children first in order to ensure a family can move forward working together.
Unfortunately cohabiting couples do not share the same legal rights as married or civil partnered couples. We can help you understand your rights and put a cohabitation agreement in place that could help protect you from future disputes.
Where possible our team will look at alternatives to court which can often be costly and lengthy. We believe that a collaborative approach where both parties can agree on a way forward is most beneficial to all concerned
Separation and divorce
Ending a relationship is always difficult. We will support you emotionally and professionally to make the process as easy as possible with the aim of arriving at a mutually agreeable compromise as early as we can.
Domestic abuse can take many forms and needs to be dealt with sensitively and quickly if you are worried about the safety of you or your family. If you have been subjected to domestic abuse we can guide you through the options available to you in order to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Financial resolution during separation and divorce
Early agreement on financial issues can help reduce the emotional impact on separating parties and children. Our family team therefore, aim to reach agreement on finances, properties and other assets as early as possible in order to allow families to move on as soon as they can.
Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
No one enters a relationship thinking it will fail but having a pre or postnuptial agreement in place at the start of a relationship will not only safe guard assets and liabilities in the event of a relationship break down but also provide protection for both parties against costly litigation in the future.
Surrogacy and fertility law
Surrogacy and fertility law is a complex area. Our family team can advise you on all the options so you can decide on the best route to parenthood for you.
Introducing your local family solicitor – Simon Walker
How long have you been a family lawyer?
I am just passing my 16th year as a qualified lawyer and 4 years prior to that I worked as a para legal.
What do you love about what you do?
For me it has to be working directly with the client. They are often in a difficult place and unable to see the wood for the trees. Having worked in this area for nearly 20 years you learn how to personalise the service you offer to best suit the individual needs of your client. It’s so rewarding to be able to help a client through a difficult time and see them and their family move forward at the end.
