Massage is pure bliss for mums-to-be, but it can be expensive if you have treatments on a regular basis. I am a pregnancy massage therapist and adult education trainer, and I have developed a unique course for mums-to-be. For less than most therapists charge for a full body pregnancy massage, I will teach you and your massage partner massage and acupressure techniques that will ease the most common aches and pains of pregnancy, such as backache, sciatica, nausea, and oedema.

You will also learn which parts of the body must not be massaged during pregnancy, and which positions and oils should be avoided. The course also includes an introduction to baby massage. If you go on to join one of my baby massage courses when your little one arrives, you will receive a client loyalty discount of 10%.

As well as being soothing and relaxing, massage during pregnancy can help to reduce stress and anxiety, encourage removal of toxins, and increase blood circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the cells of mum and baby; giving better nourishment to baby and increasing mum’s energy levels. It has lots of other benefits too. In one study on labour pain, women who had received massage therapy while pregnant experienced significantly less pain, and their labours were on average 3 hours shorter with less need for medication, than women who had not received massage.

During the classes, massage is carried out fully clothed and seated / lying on mats. You will need to bring a massage partner as they will carry out the massage on you. This does not have to be your partner; it can be a friend, your mum, sister, etc. Mums-to-be must be in the second trimester onwards, and will need to complete a consultation form before starting the course.

Classes take place at my venue in Havering-Atte-Bower, at a one off session, or in your home, as a one off session or spread over a 3 week course, at times to suit you. You will learn exactly the same, whichever course you choose. You receive handouts of the massage routines and acupressure points covered. Weekday, evening and Saturday appointments are available. I also offer Baby Massage classes for new parents.
