Chiltern Open Air Museum is an outdoor museum of rescued and reconstructed historic buildings that were the workplace or homes of ordinary people from the Chilterns. The Museum is a 45 acre site with woodlands, working historic farm, adventure playground and over 30 historic buildings to see and explore. In the Museum’s collection is a 1940s prefab, tin chapel, Victorian toll house, Blacksmith’s forge and replica Iron Age roundhouse.
There are plenty of opportunities to dress up, play with historic toys and games, build models of their barns and lots of space to run around and discover. The Museum has a sensory trail and orienteering course.
The Museum holds regular re-enactment and living history events. Every Tuesday in Bucks school holidays is a Terrific Tuesday full of themed activities and crafts. Every Thursday in the summer holidays is a Creative Thursday where children can come and meet artists and take part in the national Arts Award.
The Museum also runs a variety of workshops and experience days including watercolour painting, blacksmithing, silver jewellery making, willow weaving, straw plaiting, family bushcraft, family prehistory, archaeological dig for children, historic baking and more.
