Red Butterflies – Flutterby Music
Baby & Toddler Music Classes in Gillingham
Developing your child’s musicality – fun, singing-based musical learning, with lots of movement, instruments and games.
This is an active class with lots of movement, circle dances and musical activities that focus on keeping the beat along with developing co-ordination, listening and language skills. We meet Daddy, Mummy and Baby Bear in Musicland, try out a variety of percussion instruments and develop our imagination through the story within the songs. We also develop social skills, particularly turn-taking. Music and the development of musical skills is at the very centre of each and every class. Without realising it, the children are learning about music through songs and rhymes chosen to incorporate the week’s concept (fast-slow, high-low etc). Props, instruments, movement, actions, games and dances all help to imbed the concept and physicalize it.
We focus on the human voice – it is the child’s first instrument, everyone has one, and with time everyone can learn to use it well. Without distracting backing tracks, singing alone enables the child to really hear and begin to replicate the pitches, rhythms and words of the song. We choose the songs extremely carefully so that they fit in a child’s range, are memorable, and have simple rhythms and melodies. You won’t find the same songs in a Colourstrings class as you might at many other music classes! By starting musical development at a young age, you are giving your child the best chance to be able to achieve a tuneful voice – our classes have songs that only have a couple of pitches, to develop that ‘inner ear’ and sense of tuning.
