Developing your child’s musicality – pre-instrumental musicianship training – lots of fun and real musical skills gained.
Would you like your child to learn an instrument when they are older? Then this after-school class would be the perfect starting point to gain musical skills.
This class concentrates on developing the singing voice (encouraging pitch-matching and singing in tune), exploring different rhythms and imbedding a sense of pulse. We translate the songs into stick notation and we are able to ‘read’ rhythms. We also start to name our singing pitches with solfa (do re mi) and use hand-signs to physicalise the relationships between pitches. This is all achieved with fun games and activities which the children love. This is invaluable for learning an instrument later. If they can sing what they are intending to play and understand the relationship between the notes, they will be able to grasp a new piece more quickly.
This class leads to real tangible musical skills that are directly transferable when the child begins an instrument. Continuing with Green Butterflies for the second year gives the child a well-rounded musical understanding with more complicated rhythms and the full solfa scale, with lots and lots of practice in both. Everything is a gradual process, with each little step following very organically from the experience the children already have.
The class also helps with non-musical skills such as social skills, cognitive brain development, listening skills, memory skills, symbol recognition, and is a space for fun and play.
