Welcome to Ladybird Children’s Nursery, Scotswood
This is the first nursery in our group of nurseries, it is registered for 63 children catering for the needs of children aged 3 months to 5 years.
The nursery is just off Scotswood Road, near Newcastle Business Park in a purpose built open plan building. We are very proud of our large spacious area and outdoor environment where children have the opportunity to investigate and explore.
Our team of caring, nurturing staff appropriately use different levels of teaching to meet the children’s age and stage of development. We work in partnership with parents to offer settling in visits prior to your child starting nursery, this means you can go to work knowing your child is confident and happy.
At Ladybird we use a ‘key person’ approach to support parents and children from the very start. Your child’s key person will follow your child’s individual routine and build their day around your preferences and wishes.
We also have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who works here at Ladybird to help and support children and families with additional needs.
We involve parents in their children’s planning and daily routines and hold parents evenings and coffee mornings.

Caterpillar Room (3 months to 2 years)
At our Scotswood nursery our baby room is a light and spacious room which is separate from the open plan area of the nursery. We can hold up to 9 babies and offer a home from home environment and those all-important cuddles that every baby needs to feel secure when starting and settling in to a nursery.
We have a designated sleep area, milk kitchen and changing facilities.
Lots of messy activities happen in this room, be prepared for the mess!!
Sensory Room (all children)
The sensory room provides a space for the children to explore and move. This can be used by a group of children oron an individual basis if a child needs 1:1.
The room is changed on a regular basis to accomodate the needs of the child/children at that time. It has lots of calming lights, lots of things to touch and feel and a whole lot more!
Bumble Bees Room (2 to 3 years)
The room is designed to encourage the children to be independent and make their own choices in what they play with. All toys and resources are set at the children’s level, sand, water and paint are always available for the children along with planned activities provided by the children’s key person. There is also lots of encouragement to tidy up and to make as much mess as possible!
The children are encouraged to self-serve their own lunches, with support from staff if required. There is an adjoining changing area, with low-level toilets so the children can be supported with potty training as and when they are ready.
We have space for up to 18 two year olds on a 1:4 ratio.
15 hours of 2 year old funding is available in this room, subject to criteria.
Busy Bees Room (3-5 years)
The pre-school room at our Scotswood nursery can accommodate up to 24 children on a ratio of 1:8. Our highly experienced staff team work with the children to provide stimulating experiences appropriate to the individual ages and stages of development within this age group.
The pre-school room ethos reflects the children’s social and independence skills within the age group and is similar to the setup of a typical foundation stage classroom found at school nursery.
The room also offers free-flow opportunities for the children to access the various areas of activity as and when they wish, for as long as they wish. Pre-reading and mathematical skills are promoted within all areas of the room which include role play, mark-making and mathematics areas, sand and water play, construction, small world, books and quiet area and IT.
There is a self-service area for drinks with water bottles available for children to access throughout the day to meet their individual requirements.
The children are encouraged to be independent in accessing the equipment, self-registration, self-serving food at meal times and meeting their own toileting and personal hygiene needs.
30 hours of extended 3 and 4 year old funding is available in this room, subject to requirments.
15 hours of 3 and 4 year old funding is available in this room for every child.
