At Music Bugs, our aim is not to teach music, but to allow and encourage young children to develop, grow and explore the world around them through music and song. Participation in music and singing classes is a great way for your child to socialise and develop in a creative and stimulating environment. Research has shown that singing songs and rhymes on a regular basis helps to widen your child’s vocabulary and listening skills which are an essential part of learning to read, write and communicate.
All our sessions are about 45 minutes long and involve lots of singing, playing percussion instruments and exciting props! We will sing old favourites and some new songs that you won’t know, nursery rhymes, counting songs, knee bouncers, action songs, finger play rhymes and silly songs. The sessions are very relaxed and friendly with all parents enjoying joining in the fun with their children. Our colourful props, including pom poms, floaty scarves, parachutes, bubbles, hobby horses, teddies and puppets, help to engage your child’s attention and really bring our sessions to life. Children will love interacting with others and making new friends! Our award winning sessions have been recommended by health visitors and Early Years specialists and are great for developing confidence, coordination, fine and gross motor skills, early literacy and numeracy skills, speech and language skills, independence and social skills.
Baby Bugs is suitable for babies from birth to crawling. The class is a gentle class with the focus being on the adults interacting and engaging the babies in the songs through tickling, cuddling, rocking, bouncing, swaying etc. and the use of props and percussion instruments. All songs will be floor based with the parents sitting down and a mix of lying babies down on the floor and holding them on laps. There will also be a 10 minute sensory free-play time in the middle where parents are free to feed and change their babies, if they need to, or just chat and interact with other babies and parents and enjoy the sensory toys and props.
Family Bugs is suitable for babies and children from birth to four years of age. It is a slightly more lively class than Baby Bugs. As there is a large age range I will demonstrate actions to suit all the babies and children in the class. Instead of the 10 minute sensory section we have some standing up action songs and more instrument songs. We still have all the great props and percussion instruments that we have at Baby Bugs however as the children start to become more independent they will use the props and play the instruments themselves. I will demonstrate ways that parents with young babies can engage their little ones in the songs with the props and through actions as well as demonstrating actions that some of the children can do slightly more independently.
