Pregnancy massage at Sunderland Physiotherapy Clinic works like any other classic massage therapy. However the techniques used are tailored specifically for a mum-to-be, ensuring the woman’s shape and size are catered for with the addition of pillows for support as well as the massage pressure itself.
Pregnancy massage is suitable from 14 weeks/ start of 2nd trimester.
At Sunderland Physiotherapy Clinic we have a special interest in Women’s Health and Pregnancy, meaning the information and advice we give we give during your treatment is professional, up to date and realistic.

What to expect
At the time of booking your massage our receptionist will request your midwife’s name and telephone number, your date of birth and how many weeks pregnant you are.
With your permission we may call your midwife prior to your appointment to ensure you are fit for the massage. There are occasionally circumstances in which the midwife/ consultant and ourselves may advise against a massage. These may include, diabetes, liver/ kidney problems, unstable high blood pressure, risk of premature labour.
On the day of the massage the therapist will start by taking a full medical history. You will then be given time to undress privately, lie down on the massage couch.
