Hello, I’m Zana (rhymes with banana!) and my private Breathing & Relaxation Workshop is a 1-off, especially designed to help you and your birth partner to master skills to help you remain calm in challenging situations. Obviously, the focus of this workshop is labour and birth, but just about everything you’ll learn (yes, even the bit about specifically breathing for birthing your baby!) is transferable into normal daily life. If you ever feel anxious or worried and you sometimes find those feelings running away with you – maybe even feeling panicky – then calm, focused breathing can help. It effectively calms the nervous system and helps reduce the effects of stress hormones that are produced when you feel unsafe, scared, triggered, anxious or worried. When you’re pregnant, it’s good for your baby if you can feel calmer, too.
If you’ve done a bit of focused breathing before and found it too difficult, or unhelpful, it’s probably because it was a ‘one size fits all’ approach. My workshop is different: I help you find what works for you, as an individual.
I’ve created this unique workshop to focus on effective, relaxing, breathing techniques in a non-embarrassing way. It’s based in science but we’ll keep it simple with a clear message at the heart. You’ll learn, experientially (what’s the point of loads of theory when you actually need to DO something?!) which part of the breath is most important and why. You’ll experiment with different kinds of focus until you find what works for you. You’ll consider where and how you hold stress and tension in your body, and how to release it. You’ll learn about breathing for pushing – for birthing your baby – working with your body. You’ll have time for questions and for talking through any emotions or thoughts that arise as we go.
I provide this 2-hour workshop in the comfort of your own home. It costs £74, whether that’s for one or two people. There may be additional travel costs. If you’d rather come to me, I’m based just outside Totton, near Southampton and the New Forest. Or we can also work effectively online.
If you’re feeling particularly worried or anxious this is an area I specialise in. In addition to my antenatal education qualifications, I’m also a fully qualified and accredited counsellor, working in private practice, so I’m good at really hearing you and helping you work out what’s right for you. Self-calming techniques for self-regulation are part of my counselling role as well as my antenatal education and hypnobirthing roles.
