Developing your child’s musicality – fun, singing-based musical learning.
Lots of musical learning fun! Counting songs, rhymes, action songs, responding to music with our bodies and props, moving around at different speeds and being rocked, bounced and swung. The structure of the class keeps things familiar and secure, and helps the children to look forward to particular activities (such as the ball and the bears) and to know when it’s their turn. Music and the development of musical skills is at the very centre of each and every class. Without realising it, the children are learning about music through songs and rhymes chosen to incorporate the week’s concept.
We focus on the human voice – it is the child’s first instrument, everyone has one, and with time everyone can learn to use it well. Without distracting backing tracks, singing alone enables the baby/child to really hear and begin to replicate the pitches, rhythms and words of the song. Children are born musical. They vocalise when they play, they tap toys rhythmically and they are captivated by music. If this is carefully nurtured from a young age, this can be developed into an instinctive, natural understanding and musical ability. We choose the songs extremely carefully. The songs must be started at the correct pitch so that it is too low or too high for them, and the melody itself must be within a certain number of consecutive notes. You won’t find the same songs in a Colourstrings class as you might at the Library Bounce & Rhymes or at many other music classes!
