Baby signing, singing and multi-sensory classes.
Baby signing gives babies a voice long BEFORE their first words, and babies who are regularly signed to have the capacity to start signing back from 4-9 months onwards (please note that every child is different!). Signing greatly helps to alleviate your child’s (and your) frustrations and gives you an incredible insight into what your baby is thinking about. That moment when your baby recognises a sign for the first time, e.g. milk, is such an incredible milestone, and soon after when they realise that they can communicate with you, by signing back, the rewards are priceless. TinyTalk gives your baby’s communication skills a huge head start!
TinyTalk uses BSL, the language of the deaf community, rather than Makaton which is a very individualized language system used with children and adults who have learning and communication difficulties.
Each week, within a theme e.g. bedtime, mealtime, going to the park, a range of useful core signs are taught using props and images, with many others incorporated within carefully chosen well known songs and nursery rhymes. There is a different main sensory activity (including mirrors, sensory shapes, light-up balls, voile scarves, bubbles, signed stories and more) each week, helping your baby’s fine and gross motor skills, muscle development, visual tracking and other non-verbal elements of communication; all the essential pre-requisites of being able to sign.
30 mins of social time and refreshments gives you the much needed chance to relax and get to know the other like-minded parents and carers in class. A wide selection of hot and cold drinks are available, included in the class costs, and with the added bonus ….. these are made for you! Plus there are biscuits, lots of biscuits! During this time there is a wide range of age appropriate toys available for the little ones to play with.
For the more mobile toddler aged approx. 18 months + our toddler classes use a fun range of songs, books, language games, signs and instruments (and a parachute!) to aid communication through sign if needed as well as encouraging good speaking, sharing, turn taking and listening skills.
