This year has been full of uncertainty for a lot of us, we’ve tried to offer support to those around us in any way that we can. One organisation that has gone above and beyond supporting people, particularly victims of abuse, is the Lincolnshire Police. Domestic Abuse does not have a holiday!
With the School Summer holidays now upon us and many people enjoy the Summer period to spend a break away the Lincolnshire Police have reminded us all that “Domestic Abuse doesn’t have a holiday”.
Unfortunately, domestic abuse figures continue to rise and it appears to be never ending. If you are suffering abuse there is help available. In the UK the number of domestic killings has doubled during lockdown and frontline services report record breaking cries for help. People have reported to have been “trapped” during lockdown.
Front line services are reporting record breaking cries for help and calls to domestic violence helplines have increased by 120% and views on internet sites for people seeking support is tripling. There is also demand for refuge places.
£2m for domestic abuse services
The Home Office’s recent pledge of £2m for domestic abuse services should help services and victims. Victims are also able to use public transport free of charge when fleeing an abuser. The funding available to Lincolnshire was £64,000 for sexual violence services and £64,000 for domestic abuse services. The funding was made available to the following organisations:
registered charities, charitable incorporated organisations, social enterprises, including companies limited by guarantee and community interest companies
Funding has been made available help meet the additional costs incurred whilst adapting their services during the pandemic, and to cope with increased demand to the following charities:
- Victim Support £23,600
- Lincolnshire Rape Crisis £45,500
- EDAN Lincs Domestic Abuse Service £55,000
- South Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Service £12,000
- Umbrella Counselling £2,750
- Building Resilience In Communities (BRIC) £3,750
- NW Counselling Hub £11,000
