I’m pretty certain that one thing expectant parents wish for, other than a healthy happy baby of course, is a baby that sleeps!
Sleep Deprivation and how it affects us
Lack of sleep is obviously expected with a new born but as your baby gets older they should be sleeping longer and better through the night. Sleep deprivation can affect you in so many areas of your life, your relationship with your partner and just get on with day to day life. Every baby is different, even siblings!
You could of have had your first child and the be a really good sleeper and you have years of uninterrupted sleep, then baby number two comes along and makes you question why you did it again! Hours of sleep lost and poor sleep can affect your mental health. New parents have this to think of as well as trying to navigate the minefield of learning parenthood!
The unpredictability really affected me. My daughter would sleep well for three or four nights and then wouldn’t sleep at night for a week! I thought I tried everything, naps in the day, self-soothing, being with her… but there was no pattern, whatever I did didn’t work.
Research suggests that in the first year new parents can lose almost two hours of sleep a night… EACH!
I mean to be honest I felt like I didn’t sleep for the first 12 weeks of my daughter’s life! My sleep pattern was completely shot! My sleep quality was so poor and my health and mental health was affected. Sleep deprived I would try whatever it took but one thing that I didn’t think of though was a Baby Sleep Consultant.

A sleep consultant that has experienced sleep deprivation
Kathrine is no stranger to sleep deprivation herself. As a mother of two, one with severe Autism and complex needs, she has experienced everything these new parents are going through, with approximately 16 years of sleep deprivation under her belt, partly thanks to the fact her second son didn’t sleep well at all and after reading all the books she could and still ending up in tears not knowing what to do and wishing there was someone she could turn too a few years later she decided to expand her knowledge and train to become a certified sleep consultant.
As a sleep consultant she can work with you and your family to help you regain that missing sleep. She has an empathic, kind and caring manner and truly does care about all her clients and making their lives happier! One thing she says which sticks out for me is that if you don’t make time for your wellness you will have to make time for your illness, it’s so true! We need to make time and take care of ourselves before illness takes over and we are forced to stop.
